About Big Day

The Detroit Metro Sports Commission is proud to announce the creation of its own event, the Big Day Prep Showdown, which will showcase the quality of high school football in Southeast Michigan.

The Big Day Prep Showdown has grown to become an integral part of the fabric of the Southeast Michigan prep sports scene. The inaugural Big Day was a huge success and the second and third didn't dissapoint.

Big Day Prepshowdown III featured 14 high schools and seven games over two days at Eastern Michigan University's Rynearson Stadium on August 24 & 25, 2007.

For Big Day Prepshowdown IV we will feature fewer teams and games but with our greatest line up yet.

We have great schools from all over Metro Detroit and the State of Michigan.

Kick-off at 11 a.m. with the Oakland County pairing of South Lyon and Walled Lake Central.

A pair of cross-state games follow with Detroit Martin Luther King vs. Muskegon at 2 p.m., and Lake Orion taking on Rockford at 5 p.m.

The night-cap at 8 p.m. will feature Washtenaw County-rivals Ann Arbor Pioneer and Saline. Click here to see our complete schedule.

Quotes from Players and Coaches on Big Day Prep Showdown

  • “Sounds like the Detroit Metro Sports Commission did a fine job with Saturday's Big Day Prep Showdown, a four-game, all-day affair at EMU's Rynearson Stadium. Playing in a college stadium wasn't the only "big-time" feature of the event. There was live, streaming Internet game updates for all four games and Comcast Local television cameras were rolling.”

  • "It was a great honor to be asked to play in that game," said Plymouth coach Blaylock. "It shows that we're looked upon as an up-and-coming program. To play a team like Hudsonville is going to be awesome. Looking back at last year, I wish we would have had more games like this and then we would have been more battle-tested for the playoffs."

  • "We were here last year and the kids loved it," Trenton coach Bob Czarnecki said. "It's a first-class event at a first-class university."

  • Said Novi coach Tab Kellepourey: "It's a great atmosphere for the kids to come and play."
